'Husharu' happily follows this new-found fad. After toying with physical greatness (like boxing in 'Thammudu'), our filmmakers are now getting obsessed with the idea of having entrepreneurial heroes (especially since 'Pelli Choopulu'). In most of our simplistic movies, when the main lead (or leads, as the case may be) are dull students, they have some or the other fine talent - a fantasy not found in real life. Heavily inspired by Sekhar Kammula's 'Happy Days' at one level, the film also makes a vain attempt at getting dark comedy (in the second half) right. In telling the story of four loyal friends, director Sree Harsha Konuganti has resorted to cliches, convenient writing and, at times, low-end humour. How they overcome the obstacles is the crux of the second half. Two of them find girlfriends in a jiffy.įaced with hiccups in their families, the friends have a terrible problem awaiting them. They have always failed together, partied together, and even defecated together.Īfter their Engineering, the middling fellows are proudly clueless. The reason you overlook these follies is for the film's enjoyable humour quotient and the lack of any melodrama despite dealing with life-and-death situations. The director doesn't invest much into other relationships beyond the friendship of the quartet, which is why you feel Hushaaru tends to miss out on the larger picture at times. Be it a loan, or a bail at the police station, making a relationship work, clearing rental dues or setting up a cafe of their dreams in the heartland of Hyderabad, things come to the boys very easily. Though you see the camaraderie between its four lead characters, the director never lets a viewer feel their struggle much. If there's any problem with Hushaaru, it's the cinematic convenience. Through Rahul's character, the director takes a dig at corporate life and arranged marriages and the actor's terrific spontaneity ensures some rip-roaring laughter. The first hour borders on the predictable while it's the presence of Rahul Ramakrishna that livens up proceedings post intermission. Hushaaru, like most recent Telugu films, goes overboard in glorifying alcoholism but this thread is smartly connected to the brewery that group of friends establish, where they brew their own beer to heart's content.
The film serves as a mirror to the transient nature of our relationships today, the lack of commitment, financial pressures of millennials and on the rosy side, how online friendships can sometimes can spring a surprise too. The main conflict point of Hushaaru is with the protagonists' careers and how they stand by each other during thick and thin.
But for Tejus Kancherla, the lead cast comprises new faces and it helps Hushaaru be the carefree, light-hearted film it aspires to be, without much pretension.

Hushaaru takes off where Happy Days left, and the unlike the former, this outing has four aimless characters who don't have girlfriends during their college days, have modest academic records that don't even aid them in attending corporate interviews.
